TimeBank produces film on refugee mentoring scheme
TimeBank, the national volunteering charity, has produced a short film to promote and highlight the benefits of their successful refugee mentoring project, Time Together.
The scheme matches UK citizens with refugees in one on one mentoring relationships.
The 15 minute long film follows two refugees - an Afghani Ambassador and a Congolese student - as, with the help of their mentors, they realise their goals in education, employment and integration.
The film was produced by TimeBank to highlight the value of giving time in this unique way. Over 350 volunteer mentors are now mentoring refugees in London, Birmingham and Glasgow and the scheme will be expanding to other UK regions over the next year.
The film breaks down the myths surrounding refugees and gives a dramatically different perspective on what it is like to be a refugee in the UK. Mentoring is one of the most rewarding forms of giving time and this inspiring film shows how it benefits both the mentor and the mentored as friendships blossom between four people from very different backgrounds and cultures.
