BBC ONE SPEND £233 MILLION ON PROGRAMMES

BBC One are presenting a slate of ambitious new drama, new generation entertainment and innovative factual programming in a £233 million season of quality programmes.
Travelling back in time to follow in the giant footprints of ‘Walking With Dinosaurs’ comes ‘Walking With Beasts’. Viewers will see creatures they never knew existed from an extinct world, recreated using a unique blend of natural history filming techniques and advanced computer graphics, as if these beasts still existed today.
To enhance the experience, digital viewers will be able to interact with the programme to navigate their own voyages of discovery, while interactive games and detailed information are open to internet surfers online. Just as the BBC’s interactive Wimbledon coverage pushed the boundaries of sports broadcasting this summer, factual programming on BBC One now continues that journey and proves the added value new technology can offer.
Controller of BBC One, Lorraine Heggessey, said: "It’s been an exciting first year and we are already beginning to see my vision for a new BBC One on screen. This season I’m convinced we’ll see some monster hits in all genres. BBC One must be an accessible mainstream channel, but it must also innovate with content, scheduling and technology to remain vibrant. I want all of us to take more risks - to surprise and enthrall our viewers.
"What I’m trying to do is gradually ask people to question the assumptions they might have had about BBC One. I want people to feel that they identify with the channel because it’s in tune with the times and their lives, a more relevant and enjoyable experience. BBC One should be trusted to be the best and most interesting television around. As it takes time for production to catch up with ambition, so it will take time for more people to discover more new things about BBC One".
The continuing investment in drama is now tangible on screen and this season BBC drama is led by ideas and strong writing. BBC One have attracted the very best of writing talent to the channel with a slate of new stories and classic adaptations. (CD)
