NBC Elevates Broadcasting Quality With Lawo IP-Based Equipment Installation

Nestled in southwestern Africa, Namibia boasts a landscape defined by vast deserts, rugged mountains, and expansive savannahs.

Among its most iconic features are the towering sand dunes of the Namib Desert, a surreal expanse of shifting sands that stretch as far as the eye can see. These dunes, notably those at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, captivate travelers with their mesmerising hues, sculptural forms, and the ethereal beauty they lend to Namibia's wilderness.

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) now adds gemstones to the country’s media landscape and takes a monumental leap forward in audio infrastructure with the installation of Lawo's state-of-the-art IP-based equipment including diamond consoles and Power Cores, elevating its broadcasting capabilities with cutting-edge solutions.

Established as the South West African Broadcasting Corporation in 1979 and later rebranded as the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation in 1990, NBC has been a pillar of communication, education, and unity in Namibia. Broadcasting a diverse range of programming in multiple languages, including three English-language television programs and eleven radio programs, NBC plays a pivotal role in shaping the media landscape of Namibia.

Following extensive market research, NBC selected Lawo's IP-based equipment for its unparalleled quality and affordability. The installation, enriched with Lawo's expertise and support, promises to deliver an unparalleled audio experience to NBC's audience. Lawo’s South African Partner (B&I) Broadcast & Installation Engineering was commissioned with system integration and project coordination.

Each of NBC's newly designed 4 radio studios is now equipped with Lawo's diamond broadcast console. Renowned for its configurability and versatility, the diamond is powered by Lawo's Power Core, a scalable high-density I/O, mixing, processing, and routing engine, forming the backbone of a robust audio infrastructure. This combination offers an impressive array of features, including multiple high-density RAVENNA/AES67 and MADI interfaces, modular mic, line, AES3, GPIO, and DANTE interfaces, and extensive DSP capabilities.

Moreover, Lawo's VisTool software provides real-time audio visualisation and control, enhancing operators' workflow efficiency and ease of operation. With its intuitive graphical interface, VisTool simplifies control and monitoring tasks, offering operators unprecedented control over Lawo's powerful mixing engine platforms.

Speaking about the collaboration, a Lawo representative stated, that "we are delighted to partner with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation in their journey to enhance broadcasting standards in Namibia. Lawo's commitment to innovation and excellence aligns seamlessly with NBC's vision, and we are confident that our IP-based solutions will empower NBC to deliver world-class content to its audience."

Lawo, a global technology partner with a long history of delivering innovative solutions for live media production workflows, remains committed to providing optimized solutions for television broadcast, on-air radio, performing arts, houses of worship, and professional AV. Manufactured to the highest quality standards in Rastatt, Germany, Lawo products embody intuitivity, agility, technical and commercial flexibility, and are backed by a team of experts passionate about enabling the creation of exceptional content.

The installation of Lawo's IP-based equipment marks a significant milestone in NBC's journey towards excellence in broadcasting and reaffirms Lawo's position as a global leader in audio infrastructure solutions.
