NEW CD-ROM TELLS THE TALE OF ARK ROYAL

PICARDY Media Group is set to release an interactive CD-ROM which tells the story of how the world famous air craft carrier Ark Royal was restored by Babcock Rosyth, and lets the audience observe the refit as though they were actually there.
The CD-ROM will give a fly-on-the-wall view of this prestigious project to everyone with an interest in the sea and ships, from those wishing to join the Royal Navy, through the Ship's Company to the professionals in the naval support industry. The CD has been produced to accompany a new book by author Eric Grove on the refit story of the Ark Royal, and will also be sold as a stand alone product in main book shops and major stores.
After a five-year lay off at Portsmouth, Babcock faced a momentous challenge to bring Ark Royal back to life and transform her into a modern, high-tech fighting force fit for the 21st Century. And they enlisted Picardy’s skills to capture that two-year long process forever.
By taking an alternative route to the straightforward documentary format, Picardy have allowed users to view the ship’s rebirth ‘as it happens’. The CD-ROM focuses on the Ark Royal's eminent history, on the recent refit that has returned the aircraft carrier to front line service and describes the roles expected of the ship and her people.
The CD contains 3-D visuals, immersive photography, video clips and interviews with members of the ship’s crew. The interactive CD-ROM allows users to navigate through the different components of the re-fit, while being able to jump to any part of the ship at any time and meet the people who work there.
It also features a ‘Flash Animation’ game called ‘Harrier Challenge’ which will appeal to young and old alike. Picardy Digital Media are currently specialising and developing Flash content for web-sites.
