GMTV GOES ON-AIR WITH QUANTEL

GMTV, the UK national breakfast-time broadcaster, have gone on-air with a Quantel Clipbox-based news system following a total overhaul of their previously tape-based broadcasting operation.
The system is centred around a 14 port Clipbox Power server, configured for 100 hours’ storage at DVCPRO25 - probably the first DVCPRO25 server-based installation to go on-air anywhere in the world. Two Quantel embedded editing seats provide craft editing of material directly on the server, and the journalists also have browse access to the server via four Ibis ClipTrim browse edit stations for shot selection. Media acquisition and loading is handled by Ibis ServerLoad automation and Flash Interlinear, with on-air control of the Clipbox outputs handled by Flash Intercart automation, fed from GMTV’s Newsmaker journalists’ system. Systems integration was carried out by IPK.
The installation also features a Quantel Clipbox Studio server, configured with 8 ports and 24 hours of DVCPRO25 storage. As well as offering system redundancy, the Clipbox Studio - with its own dedicated Quantel Editbox - services production and transmission for Sky One’s ‘Lorraine’ programme, also produced by GMTV.
