TVB order five Quantel gQ for Hong Kong

Hong Kong-based TVB (Television Broadcasts Limited) has ordered five Quantel gQs for its graphics department based in a brand-new facility in Hong Kong.
TVB is the largest producer of Chinese language programming in the world, producing over 5600 hours a year. It broadcasts over both terrestrial and satellite channels, transmitting over 16,000 hours of programming per year free-to-air to 2.1 million homes in Hong Kong.
TVB's decision to place gQ at the heart of its 24/7 graphics operation was based on several factors. Chief amongst them was its unique Resolution Co-existence technology giving it the capability to work in SD now and HD in the future (particularly important as the Chinese government is yet to decide which particular HD format to implement in the region). The company also cites the gQ's openness and flexibility as significant advantages, with a wide range of plug-ins available and excellent interoperability with other kit in the graphics department. TVB is thus now able to complete all its paint work on the machine instead of spreading it across several different platforms as before. Lastly, a UI which provides consistency with Quantel legacy equipment such as Paintbox and Hal minimises training issues.
Commenting on the success of the gQ at TVB, Head of Sales S.E. Asia, Alex Chelleri said: "generationQ is being adopted by all the leading broadcasters around the world because of its modularity, flexibility and price-performance ratio. Quantel is proud that it continues to be a valued partner to TVB in making creative programming for viewers here in Hong Kong."
