Community Channel signs contract with BBC Broadcast

BBC Broadcast, one of the commercial arms of the BBC, has won a two year playout contract in a competitive pitch for the Community Channel, the only UK-wide TV channel dedicated to inspiring people to get more involved in their communities.
The channel will be broadcast from the new purpose-built resilient Broadcast Centre in London W12, which will allow the Community Channel to do live broadcasts and interactivity for the first time.
The Broadcast Centre, opened in October 2003, is the most advanced playout facility in Europe. Located in the Media Village in White City, the Broadcast Centre houses BBC Broadcast’s playout, channel management and creative teams for international channels, BBC channels and other broadcasters.
Jane Mote, Controller of The Community Channel, said: ”We evaluated many playout facilities while making this decision, and decided BBC Broadcast could deliver the flexibility and services we needed at the best price. The Broadcast Centre’s scalable technology will enable us to grow, delivering live broadcasting for the first time. The technology gives us the ability to publish media to new platforms, and for the first time we will have an interactive stream allowing us to communicate with our audience in new ways.”
Pam Masters, Managing Director, BBC Broadcast said: “I am delighted to welcome the Community Channel to the Broadcast Centre. The technology in this building enables us to offer all channels many levels of functionality We designed this building to enable us to harness the full potential of today’s broadcast technology while planning for tomorrow’s needs, as illustrated in the cost-effective and flexible service we are able to deliver the Community Channel.”
