Framestore treat D&AD Awards to neon white Vegas animations

Framestore CFC Design were recently asked to create the introductory 30-second animated title sequence and four two-second idents bumpers for this year's D&AD Awards ceremony and dinner, held in London in May.
The Framestore CFC team complemented the lavish dinner with a "monochromatic feast for the eyes".
This year's theme was 'white neon on black' and the Framestore CFC team's brief for the animation was as stark as that.
Designers Sharon Lock and Adam Parry came up with a beautiful, kinetic sequence of neon designs. Parry built, lit and animated it in Inferno, using illustrations created by Lock in Photoshop. Woven into a series of Las Vegas-like casino-themed neon 'signs' were the familiar D&AD Yellow Pencil Award and the association's logo.
Framestore CFC's digital VFX work was also recognised at the awards, with the company's special effects on 'Fish' for Johnnie Walker receiving a Silver Nomination in the Television & Cinema Advertising Crafts category.
The gala Ceremony and Dinner took place at Billingsgate, a 19th Century listed building on the banks of the Thames. Over 21,500 entries vied for places in 27 categories, with the coveted Yellow Pencils going to 53 lucky winners. This year's awards ceremony was part of a three-week spectacular of international design and advertising, the D&AD Congress 2004.
Founded in 1962, D&AD is a UK-based educational charity working on behalf of the international design and advertising communities. Its purpose is to champion excellence in creativity by setting industry standards, educating and inspiring the next generation and promoting the importance of good design and advertising in the business arena.
