Second eQ installed at AHC Post in London

At the Broadcast Production Show Quantel revealed that AHC Post has installed a second Quantel eQ editing/effects/grading/mastering system and a Quantel QEdit Pro editing system at its Soho, London premises.
Less than a year on from investing in its first Quantel system, a QColor-equipped eQ, AHC Post has almost at a single stroke become one of the capital's best-equipped HD facilities.
"It's been frantic year," said AHC MD, Andrew Cummings. "There seems to be a huge pent-up demand for HD post in London and we're one of the very few companies that can offer it how the market wants it – basically at the same price and speed as others manage with SD. That's why the second eQ already looks to be booked full-time."
The QEdit Pro will be networked with the two eQs to handle preparation work and also the SD-only jobs that still come into the facility.
AHC's business has grown to encompass movie restoration and remastering to HD. This gives clients a master with a much longer shelf-life and better quality in every format deliverable; corporate presentations, where the impact of large-screen HD provides massive benefits; and movie post production at HD resolution. AHC views the latter as a big growth area for smaller budget films where it can offer the conform, effects, grade and mastering in a single pass.
Cummings also has an eye on the commercials business: "HD post will provide an image conscious industry with visibly higher quality images whatever the acquisition format – HD, 16mm or 35mm. There's no cost penalty for a far better-looking result – so why on earth would you choose to post at SD nowadays?"
According to Cummings the formula for the company's success is "post at AHC is a cost-effective and pleasurable process."
"We've got the best kit there is and a dedicated, capable team. We're relaxed about what we're doing because we know what we're doing, and that seems to work well for our clients," he added.
