IBC VOWS "SHOW WILL GO ON"

THE events of the last day have shocked the world and the scenes of destruction will remain with us forever, but IBC organisers have vowed that the "show will go on".
At the IBC 2001 event many people feel particularly close to the tragedies brought so clearly to our screens by their fellow colleagues in the broadcasting industry.
A spokesperson at IBC said: “By now we all know the consequential disruption to air transport services and that some people are now directly affected. A few may not exhibit, some booths may not be totally completed and some may not be staffed as originally planned. The disruption to transport will also affect visitors.
"We can assess that situation when the doors open for the conference and the exhibition on Friday. As many will know IBC is a partnership of international organisations. Two are from the United States, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and the
Broadcast Technology Society (IEEE), both east coast based operations.
"Our thoughts are with those partners and especially our friends and colleagues from the United States here at IBC. Can I also take this opportunity to reassure you that the IBC team is working hard to ensure a successful show."
It is suspected that somet of the American companies that were due to exhibit at IBC will be using represenation from their dealers or sister companies in Europe if they are unable to attend the event. (CD)
