Systembase to license APT algorithm

In a move designed to strengthen their presence in the broadcast market, APT (Audio Processing Technology) have signed a long-term licensing agreement with UK manufacturer Systembase, allowing the company to use APT’s ground-breaking data compression algorithm, apt-X, in their range of audio codecs.
Systembase supplies audio codecs to a wide range of broadcasters around the world, including the BBC, NTL and Sky. their product range includes the popular C400xr ISDN audio codec, which is particularly well suited for radio STL applications and can be used to provide a 15KHz stereo audio link over a 256Kbps digital line.
As one of APT’s most established customers, Systembase have been incorporating APTX100ED chips into their products for some years. However, it was the flexibility offered by licensing apt-X that proved to be the catalyst for change.
Andrew Steward, Managing Director of Systembase, explained: “The apt-X licence agreement will give us the flexibility we required to develop a more versatile product range. The next generation of Systembase audio codec products will enable us to build on our current successes in the broadcast market, and to expand into new areas.”
