PMC launch digitally powered monitor range and professional ‘reference’ digital power amps
PMC has announced that it is introducing a range of digital self-powered monitors and newly developed reference digital power amplifiers at this year’s AES convention in Berlin.
The PMC DB1-A and TB2-A are compact, two-way monitor designs employing PMC’s advanced Transmission Line design and Flying Mole digital Bi-Phase Fusion amplification. Both models provide characteristic PMC resolution, LF extension and balanced frequency response, consistent at all volume levels. Proprietary LF drivers and cabinet design, along with high quality, hand-built crossover electronics, ensure ultra low distortion and compression characteristics, enabling consistent performance at high SPLs. The DB1-A and TB2-A incorporate PMC 140 mm and 170 mm LF Doped drivers respectively and both models feature the 27 mm soft dome tweeter used in the company’s larger mid-field designs. Both models are powered digitally by Flying Mole reference amplifier modules, each weighing just 650 grams and supplying 160W into 4 ohms, providing world-leading PMC studio monitoring at a new and highly competitive cost advantage.
PMC is also launching the Flying Mole Corporation’s range of DAD-M100pro reference digital power amplifiers at AES, as the exclusive UK and mainland Europe distributor for this ground breaking product range.
Developed by the Flying Mole Corporation in Japan, the DAD-M100pro digital power amplifier incorporates several proprietary technological advances and represents the world’s first professional reference class digital power amplifier - providing highly significant efficiency advantages and superior sound quality over similarly priced and rated analogue units. The unique Bi-Phase Fusion Technology enables unification of the amplifier and switch-mode power supply circuits, by means of newly developed proprietary micro-circuitry. The resultant significant size and weight reduction is accompanied by a power conversion efficiency of 85%. The unit runs far cooler than either conventional analogue or existing digital amplifier designs – 30W continuous power consumption is 1/8 of maximum output (160W into 4 ohms. 100W into 8 ohms, FTC rated). The ecological bonus is that standby power consumption for each unit is a mere 6W.
Measuring only 130 x 210 x 41 mm, the DAD-M100pro’s power size and power weight ratios are unrivalled and effectively bullet-proof construction of the sealed housing ensures high reliability and resistance to harsh operating environments. The ultra compact dimensions and low heat dissipation enable the unit to be used in free standing, rack mounted, wall mounted, or speaker mounted configurations, enabling the highly effective ‘power-packing’ of any number of compact monitor designs, especially useful for free standing surround sound, or console mounted monitor positioning. Variants include Professional (balanced) and Domestic (unbalanced) models, mounting hardware and a 12V DC version.
