BSkyB selects Pinnacle Systems’ Deko

Pinnacle Systems has announced that British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB), the UK's leading provider of digital television, has deployed DekoCast character generators at its main UK studio facility in Isleworth, London.
The solution will be used to produce content for the new international feed of Sky News, which is currently the UK's leading 24-hour news channel. Deployed ahead of the service's launch later this year, the solution complements 12 FXDeko II systems and a DekoCast Authoring Station being used across the Sky News and Sky Sports channels.
The new service will broadcast internationally providing a single feed global news service utilising content from Sky News' existing operations. In creating this new service BSkyB is aiming to build on the continued success in the UK and Ireland of Sky News, which earlier this year was named the RTS News Channel of the Year for the third successive year.
Mark Crawford, Head of Broadcast Computing, BSkyB, said: "Our ongoing deployment of Pinnacle's Deko solution has resulted from four years of sustained delivery, not only in the quality of the products' output but also in the dependable support we have received from the company. The simplicity in making solution upgrades and the ease in which the product can be integrated in to other broadcast systems have also proved significant benefits."
Deko solutions comprise a powerful combination of hardware and software, delivering some of the most advanced on-air graphics applications on the market today. An experienced user of Pinnacle's flagship FXDeko II system, BSkyB uses the solution to produce the majority of its character graphics content for all Sky News broadcasts. It has now opted for the DekoCast character generator specifically to provide breaking-news content to be viewed between scheduled programmes on Sky News'' international feed.
