PERRY QUITS CHANNEL 5 TO JOIN WORLD OF WONDER
ADAM Perry, Channel 5's Controller of Special Events, is leaving the broadcaster to become Creative Director at World of Wonder.
Perry, who has been at Channel 5 since 1996, will be leaving towards the end of the year to take up his new role at the production company, which will see him overseeing the independent's strategic development in the UK.
At 5 he has commissioned a number of key series and one-off specials including: ‘Mr. Gay UK’, ‘The Pepsi Chart’ and a ‘Thong for Europe’. Perry was also responsible for bringing a rejuvenated and revamped ‘Miss World’ back to terrestrial television for the first time in ten years.
He also commissioned the controversial game show ‘Naked Jungle’ hosted by a nude Keith Chegwin.
Perry said: "Being part of the start up team at Channel 5 has been an exhilarating experience, I have had a fantastic time and there have been some great programming opportunities here, but after five years it's time to move on. World of Wonder are one of the most exciting Indies in television today. The company have produced some of the programmes that have helped to define television over the last decade and I'm tremendously excited at the prospect of working with a team who are not only very talented but for whom I have great respect."
Dawn Airey, Channel 5's Chief Executive, said: "Adam has been one of the architects of 5's success. The programmes he has commissioned have been key to developing the personality of the Channel. He will be much missed and I'm sure he'll be very successful in his new role."
Perry joined 5 as Head of Regional Independent Productions and Special Events in 1996 from Carlton UK Productions where he was Head of Daytime Programmes.
Prior to that he had been an executive producer in the features department of Central TV, which he joined in 1986 after eight years working at Yorkshire Television. (CD)
