IFSW RECEIVES AWARD FOR MEDIA ENTERPRISE
AN AWARD to celebrate outstanding achievement in media training has been presented to the International Film School Wales (IFSW) based at the University of Wales College, Newport.
The Award for Enterprise was presented by the Chief Executive of the International Visual Communication Association (IVCA) during a meeting of the IFSW Industry Liaison Committee. Two Assembly Members attended the meeting, Minister for Culture, Jenny Randerson AM and Minster for Education, Jane Davidson AM.
The Chief Executive of the IVCA, Wayne Drew said: “Wales is a centre of creativity and excellence for film and television production and has an impressive corporate media industry too. But it truly needs an International Film School to ensure such skills are fostered and to ensure this talent bank plays its part in re-energising the media industries.”
This highly respected Award has been presented to leading colleges and universities for the excellence of their training provision in corporate media. It also recognises the achievement of the IFSW in securing funding from HTV, BBC, S4C and the WDA for future development and research programmes.
Director of the IFSW, Clive Myer said: “Newport has an excellent reputation for producing talented film makers, former students include Kirk Jones who’s popular film “Waking Ned’ grossed £35,000,000 at the box office and more recently, Justin Kerrigan, who’s hit film “Human Traffic” won eleven international awards. We aim to work with the corporate visual communications industry to produce the next generation of film and television programme makers and to help develop a skilled workforce for the cultural industries.”
