RED POSTS TWO POP VIDEOS

LEADING Soho-based visual communications facility Red have provided subtle effects for the latest promos from Jamiroquai (You Give Me Something) and The Charlatans (A Man Needs To Be Told).
Produced by Black Dog and The Artists Company respectively, both promos begin airing this month.
Black Dog's Dawn Shadforth directed the latest promo for Jamiroquai 'You Give Me Something' which features a tongue-in-cheek look at a day in the life of the band's lead singer, Jay Kay. It follows the star from the moment he wakes up, surrounded by a bevy of beautiful girls, throughout the day and on into the night where he hits the town in a limo - again surrounded by stunning women.
Red's team of effects artists used Discreet's fire and inferno to add some subtle touches such as smoothing the transitions between the steadicam live-action shots and the time-lapse sequences, and adding in a sunset painting behind the singer who was shot blue screen. The facility also gave the environments a graphic, clean-cut feel - removing billboards, signs and telephone boxes within a series of complex camera tracking moves.
Director Kevin Godley's idea for The Charlatans' 'A Man Needs To Be Told' promo was to test the viewers' perception and visual orientation with a performance promo that was shot upside down. Godley built the entire set on the ceiling and then suspended the band from harness rigs. The finished look creates a surreal feel to the band's performance, which becomes more apparent with members lifting themselves off the floor as the promo continues.
Red's Tim Rudgard and Dan Williams used Discreet's fire and inferno and Quantel's Henry to remove the holes in the ceiling where the wires came through, and take out the wires themselves that were holding the band by harnesses to the ceiling. Additional glint and sparkle effects were overlaid to enhance the mirror balls surrounding the band's performance. Red colourist Simone Grattarola graded the promo using Spirit.
