Rushes complete comical promos for The Darkness

Following in the footsteps of famous glam rock Christmas singles before it, director Alex Smith of Adrenalin @ Rushes has delivered a typically stylised video for 'Xmas' by The Darkness.
The promo opens on a shot of a log cabin, set into a snowy landscape and surrounded with frosted trees. The door of the cabin, hung with a Yuletide wreath, opens on to a cosy sitting room with an open fire, fairy lights and tinsel covered tree. The Darkness sit around the Christmas tree with frontman Justin Hawkins wearing his typical flared trousers in white leather matching a red and white trimmed gilet.
There is a comedic tone to 'Xmas' that is highlighted when the band members open their presents. Ed, the drummer, gives Frankie, the bassist, a laser gun, which when fired emits a purple laser beam that bounces off the walls narrowly missing the pair. Dan, the lead guitarist, opens a three-necked guitar and a rather forlorn looking Justin pulls a red thong from a sack of Christmas gifts, possibly realising that this gift has no girl included. As Justin looks towards the Xmas tree we see the reflection of a woman staring back at him from one of the baubles, which seems to remind him that he¹s alone for the season. The promo cuts to a shot of Justin and Dan playing the new guitar in tandem.
As the other band members play with their presents, Justin reclines by the fire only to see the face of the same woman appear in the flames with a tear rolling down her cheek. There is a knock at the door and Justin runs to answer it eyeing the mistletoe hopefully. Sadly it's not the woman in the reflections but a group of carol singing children that he sings back to in a perfect alto.
Justin returns to the warmth of the cabin and receives a final gift wrapped in a small parcel, which he opens it to find a pair of car keys. Running outside he finds a red Lamborghini waiting for him in the snow. While the rest of the band watch through the window, Justin gets into the car and sits behind the wheel, the snow covered window screen blocking our view of him. As he turns the ignition and clears the snow with the wipers, the woman that we saw in the reflection is revealed in the front passenger seat beside him. Elated he kisses her and the shot pans up in the night sky to The Darkness space ship that spells out a Christmas message to everyone on earth.
VFX Artist Duncan Malcom said, "The video for the Darkness Xmas release wouldn't be complete without a snow covered log cabin and carol singers. The laser gun fire and additional spaceship action were just the normal Alex Smith extras."
