Channel 4 Commissions Dance Around The World

Channel 4 have commissioned a new series, Dance Around the World, from Knickbockerglory TV.

Dance Around the World sees three of the most talented European dancers on a global quest to find the beating heart and cultural roots of indigenous street dance.

The three dancer-presenters include; Londoner Suzette Brissett who has danced with Rihanna, Usher and Major Lazer, and is now an esteemed choreographer working with Dua Lipa, MIA and Jennifer Hudson; Kym Jay, also from the capital, has danced for Madonna and is a global dance ambassador for Nike; and Maren, ‘the skinny white girl’ from Holland has made her name as one of the most intimidating b-girl forces on competition circuit facing down challengers and sexism alike.

Maren, Suzette, and Kym Jay may have performed in street dance battles across worldwide but this series takes them far beyond their comfort zone. From the townships of South Africa, to the favelas of Brazil and to New York's The Bronx, our dancers seek out dancing communities who have inspired this art form through the ages, discovering the roots of each local dance culture and meeting the locals who’ve used their own personal histories to transform the legacy of tribal moves into urban flows.

The resounding feeling that we will most take away with us however was dance as a totally joyous art form - a break from the stresses and strains of life, dance as pure escapism, and a middle finger up to the slings and arrows of life's misfortunes."
