Applications Open For 2019 DocLab Training Scheme
The Grierson Trust has opened applications for its 2019 DocLab training scheme.
The annual programme is being held with support from the UK's leading independent factual production companies.
The Grierson DocLab offers:
• financial support for trainees plus work placements supported by bursaries
• a dynamic programme of workshops and masterclasses
• access to award-winning industry professionals
• structured mentoring support
• the chance to attend the internationally recognised Sheffield Doc/Fest
• a fantastic opportunity for 18 - 25 year olds to gain their first foothold in the documentary industry.
From learning basic camera skills to pitching a concept, this is a chance for 12 aspiring filmmakers to turn their documentary passion into reality.
Jane Callaghan, Managing Director of The Grierson Trust, said: "DocLab is proving itself an invaluable way for young people to start their documentary careers as our talented mentees are really starting to shine in the industry. DocLab is unique in offering young people from a range of backgrounds the chance to get a foot in the door. Our current cohort of mentees representing towns and cities across the country including Blackpool, Corby, Coventry, Gateshead, Glasgow, Ipswich, Liverpool and Swindon. We're now on the hunt for the next dynamic dozen to join the scheme."
Since 2012, DocLab has enabled 71 young people to explore documentary making, offering hands on training, paid work placements and continued mentoring. The scheme continues to go from strength to strength with alumni popping up all over the industry as filmmakers, editors, researchers, directors and so on. In fact, they're now lining up for awards themselves - Preston Hartley made it to the 2018 Grierson Awards Student shortlist and Ryan Gregory's film for BBC Three, 'The Voices in My Head', was shortlisted for an RTS North West Award.
The Trust additionally provides ongoing bespoke support for participants as they progress with their career choice within the sector. This opportunity is for new entrants aged 18-25, and will support a variety of roles behind the camera.
DocLab is generously supported by the Rank Foundation and a host of the country's leading independent production companies as well as Blueberry Creative and The Kit Room.
To apply for a place on this year's DocLab, further details and an applications form are available from [email protected] or at outreach/doclab-2019/outreach/doclab-2019/. The closing date for applications is 5pm, Friday 15 March 2019.
