AMERICAN CABLE INDUSTRY ADOPTS DVB-MHP

THE DVB-MHP standard, an API (Application Program Interface) for interactive television has been selected by CableLabs digital set top boxes that are to be deployed throughout America.
CableLabs are the technology consortium for cable system operators in North and South America, with their members serving more than 85 per cent of cable subscribers in the United States and Canada, and a further 12 percent in Mexico.
Cable operators in North America have agreed that MHP is to become the core of the OCAP (OpenCable Application Platform). OCAP is the software specification of the OpenCable project, which solves the problem of proprietary operating system software by creating a common platform upon which interactive services may be deployed. The OpenCable set top box will allow the cable household to access both digital broadcasting and interactive digital applications.
