Tartan Shorts winners announced
From a hero with a hair deficiency to a feuding family and a search for sensual utopia, a trio of imaginative stories have been selected to be made under 2004’s Tartan Shorts short film scheme.
A joint initiative between BBC Scotland and Scottish Screen, each year Tartan Shorts gives three writer/director/producer teams the opportunity to produce a nine-minute film suitable for both cinema exhibition and television broadcast.
The three films chosen for 2004’s scheme were selected amid stiff competition and will go into production in the spring. Each film will be premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August this year.
Casting for 2004’s three Tartan Shorts films is underway and will be announced in due course.
The three short films selected for Tartan Shorts 2004 are: ‘Baldy McBain’, written by Marc Pye and directed by Colm McCarthy; ‘No Man’s Land’, written and directed by Clara Glynn and produced by Lorna Ferguson; And ‘Tumshie McFadgen’s Bid For Ultimate Bliss’, written and directed by Simon Hynd and produced by Micky MacPherson.
Becky Lloyd, Short Film Executive at Scottish Screen, looks forward to seeing the finished films. She said: "It is always difficult choosing only three scripts from the host of entries we receive for this very popular, and successful, short film scheme. Tartan Shorts is the envy of the UK short film industry with many of those involved in the scheme going on to greater things. This year’s selection features an eclectic collection of scripts, all very different, and I am greatly looking forward to seeing them realised on the screen."
Trish Malone, Executive Producer, BBC Scotland added: "For over a decade, Tartan Shorts has managed to source the Scottish film-makers of tomorrow and this year’s crop is no exception. I’m hugely excited about the prospect of working with an array of emerging creative talent that will spearhead the making of three unique films that are Tartan Shorts 2004."
