REPORT PREDICTS ONE IN FOUR WILL HAVE DTV BY 2002

ONE of the Europe's leading internet research and analysis companies, Jupiter MMXI, predicts that in 2002 nearly 25 per cent of all European household will have digital television (DTV).
The UK has the highest penetration of DTV in the world and by the end of 2002, 50 per cent of British homes will have DTV.
Whilst DTV take-up in Europe will increase elsewhere in Europe, it will be the slowest to take off in southern Europe, where less than 20 per cent of homes in Spain and Italy will have DTV by the end of 2002.
However, revenues from interactive services on television will remain siginificantly lower than those from the PC internet in 2002, according to the report.
Jupiter MMXI was formed by the merger of MMXI in Europe, and Jupiter Communications in September 2000. The merger created the definitive source for market intelligence on the internet and digital services. (CD)
