Architectural documentary wins Royal Television Society Award

The award for best documentary at the recent regional Royal Television Society Awards went to Plymouth based Automatic Productions for 'Big City, Big Dreams', a two-part series for ITV1 Westcountry examining the architectural design, urban regeneration and planning of the City of Plymouth.
Travelling throughout the UK and Europe, renowned architectural historian Jeremy Gould examines how Plymouth’s problems and triumphs compare with cities such as Barcelona and Manchester.
Following on from the success of Big City, Big Dreams, and currently in postproduction for broadcast in February 2004, is 'Big City, Big Future', the first in a series of follow-ups.
The two-part series, also for ITV1 Westcountry, follows David Mackay and his team over the past 10 months as they develop their unique plan for the regeneration of Plymouth to turn the city into one of the 21st century’s most vibrant waterfront cities.
"We were delighted when we were nominated for the award and overjoyed when we won," said David Orton, Executive Producer of the series and a Plymothian. "Plymouth is often perceived as a cultural backwater in the shadow of rivals Exeter and Truro and we wanted the programmes to show that the city really is a vibrant, forward-thinking place to live and is ready to embrace the vision of one of the world’s greatest city planners."
