TV Documentary Filmmaker To Receive TiCA Accolade

News Image
Television documentary filmmaker, Paul Berriff OBE, is to receive a Television Cameraman's Award (TiCA) at this year's Guild of Television Cameramen (GTC) Awards Day.

The GTC Council said the accolade is given to an individual who, in their opinion, has furthered the cause of the GTC by fostering and improving the art and craft of the professional television cameraman over many years.

Mr Berriff has spent 40 years behind the camera, either shooting or producing. His career began in stills and his portfolio of work features his photographs of, amongst others, The Beatles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones.

Later, he moved on to moving images and became the youngest cameraman at the time to work for the BBC. His career covered major stories from the Piper Alpha disaster, to being on the ground during the World Trade Center attacks on 11 September 2001. He also subsequently made the documentary film, 9/11 A Firefighters' Story, for Channel Five.

At the GTC Awards, Mr Berriff will receive his award and talk to members and guests of the GTC about his career, while showing examples of his work.

The event will take place at the 'A Day in the Country', near Banbury, on Sunday, 14 May.
