GTC Announces Annual Awards Day
The date and venue for this year's Guild of Television Cameramen (GTC) awards and AGM has been announced. The events will take place on Sunday, 14 May, and run from 9am to 10pm.
Sponsors of the day (announced so far) include Panasonic UK, Camera Corps and Presteigne Broadcast Hire, with support also pledged from ARRI, Aerial Vue, Portaprompt, SNG and Video Europe.
GTC members will be able to try their hand at four fun activities in one-hour sessions throughout the day. For 2017, the activities will be Hovercraft, 4 x 4 Driving, Dog Agility/Ferret Racing and Archery.
On site during the activities part of the day there will be drones from Aerial Vue, the ARRI Trinity, a chance to try out the latest Panasonic cameras and a 360° demo from VE Group.
At the end of the morning activity sessions, the GTC's 45th AGM will take place. Members will receive a review of the past year from chairman Graham Maunder together with financial reports and discussion about future plans for the GTC. Free food and soft drinks are supplied all day.
In the evening, this year's awards will be presented. These include GTC Awards for Excellence, Seal(s) of Approval for kit, and the Television Cameraman's Award (TiCA), which is awarded to an individual who has fostered and improved the art and craft of professional television camerawork over many years. The awards ceremony will be streamed live on the internet and an edited highlights package will later be published on the GTC Vimeo page.
There will also be a charity raffle with prizes generously donated by industry companies. This year the proceeds will be split between the CTBF and Fight for Sight. So far, donations of prizes have been received from Over Exposed, Cache Media, Dan Greenway and Miller Fluid Heads Europe Ltd.
