Tyne Tees Television appoint new Managing Director

Following Tyne Tees Television Managing Director Margaret Fay's announcement that she is taking early retirement, Granada, owners of the TTTV, have announced that her successor will be the company’s Controller of Programmes, Graeme Thompson.
Ms Fay, who is leaving to concentrate on her new appointment as chair of the regional development agency, One NorthEast, has been with the company for more than 22 years and will leave the television station on December 31.
Ms Fay commented: “I am obviously sad to be leaving after so many years with the company. I am grateful to Granada for allowing me to leave at this time in order to focus on the challenging job of being chair of One NorthEast.”
Mr Thompson, who was born in South Shields, has been part of the management team at the ITV licensee since joining the company in 1993.
He is a former editor of North East Tonight with Mike Neville and Head of News, and was also responsible for launching Tyne Tees Television’s Teesside news operation at Belasis Park. He controls sites in Newcastle, Billingham and Sunderland producing eight and a half hours a week of news and regional programmes.
He said: “I am delighted to be part of one of the North East’s best-loved businesses. These are exciting times for British television with a new Communications Act and the dawn of a reinvigorated ITV.
“I understand the importance of regional television to the North East and I intend for Tyne Tees to continue to play a major role in this new multi-channel age.”
