PanBox And PanRack 3G Fibre Links
Fibre specialist Mi Broadcast has introduced a low cost rugged fibre optic link for 3G/HD-SDI video.
Whilst there are many low cost HD fibre links available, they mostly have vulnerable fibre connectors and power jacks that can easily fall out.
This may be acceptable when the equipment is placed in a location where the equipment and cables will not be disturbed, but it is far from ideal when in a crowded equipment rack or in the back of an outside broadcast vehicle.
They also generally require 1 fibre core per signal which increases the cost, maintenance and weight of the fibre optic cable used. PanBox and PanRack are high performance solutions to these problems.
PanBox has a rugged throwdown housing with useful handle which can act as a fixing bracket.
Power is supplied via a latching 4-pin XLR connector commonly found in the industry and has input range of 5-24V DC making it also suitable for battery operation. A choice of fibre connector is offered including Neutrik DUO and QUAD, Lemo 3K.93C and the lower cost IP-LC.
Two versions are available; 2+1 (2 HD one way and 1 back) on 1 fibre core, and 4+2 (4 HD one way and 1 back) on just 2 fibre cores. LEDs above each BNC indicate video presence.
PanRack is a 1U 19" rack frame which can hold up to four 2+1 modules making combinations up to 8 HD one way and 4 HD back on 4 STs or a Neutrik QUAD connector. Power connection is via two 4 pin XLRs for main and redundant supply.
PanRacks can connect together or to one or more PanBox throwdowns. PanBox and PanRacks can be supplied with a range of rugged tactical fibre optic cables which are manufactured in-house.
