Channel 4 Commissions 'Escape'

News Image
Channel 4 has commissioned a new factual entertainment series, Escape, which will see a group of skilled engineers put into a 'catastrophic scene' and left to find a way to get out.

Inspired by real-life events, the series will follow a group of people stranded at a crash site in a hostile environment, days from civilisation. Surrounded by the wreckage, their only option to escape is to build a new vehicle from the debris.

In each episode, four new cast members will find themselves in a different terrain, whether desert, snow, jungle or on water. They must generate their own power and make their own shelter, but they can't just survive, they have to escape. The group will have to battle the harsh environment and work together to build a way out before their basic rations run out. The only tools they have are those they can find or salvage from the debris.

At the helm of the series is Royal Engineer Ant Middleton, whose SAS experience will offer an insight into the mental and physical challenge for the contributors as they take on the challenge.

Liam Humphreys, Head of Popular Factual at Channel 4, said: "Escape is a thrilling new format and joins our stable of bold and large scale commissions. It will test the ingenuity and resolve of our contributors to the limit. They will need to leave no stone unturned if they are to successfully engineer a way out."

Simon Knight, CEO of Maverick, added: "Channel 4 asked us to think big and risky and we came up with Escape: a distinctive format that's going to be filled to the brim with action and drama. I can't wait to see how they escape."

Escape is a 5x60' series and has been commissioned by Liam Humphreys, Channel 4's Head of Popular Factual, and Danny Carvalho, Commissioning Editor for Factual Entertainment. It is a Maverick TV production and the Executive Producer is Simon Knight.

Maverick TV is an all3media company and Escape will be distributed by all3media International.
