iBroadcast: Workflow Case Study

News Image
When Astro, a leading international broadcaster based in Malaysia, wished to augment their system monitoring with an Operational Management System, they selected iBroadcast due to its powerful data-driven, integrated, automated workflow capability.

As an extension of iBroadcast, Astec implemented an end-to-end automated monitoring system from file ingestion to play-out.

Once the subtitle file begins to download, iBroadcast monitors the file size of the destination drive to ensure that the reported download speed and progress is accurate. The system analyses the file to ensure that the correct language elements are available and ready to be carried with the signal.

24-hours before broadcast, the system will check for the presence of the subtitle file in the Polistream system. If the file is present and available to be included in the scheduled transport stream the system takes no further action. Should the system detect an error with the file or find it missing, operators are informed of this and are directed to resolve the issue. The system then checks for the presence of the correct file 4-hours before the scheduled broadcast.

This process is repeated again before the broadcast begins to allow the broadcaster to consider a scheduling change to avoid broadcasting without subtitles, or address the issue imminently after broadcast.

Following the implementation of these systems, the broadcaster was able to adjust their operation from a reactive process to a proactive one. With a fully automated workflow, the broadcaster has enabled their operators to react in a controlled, dynamic way.
