The Disabled Dangerous Sports Club Commissioned By Channel4
Channel 4 has announced that it has commissioned The Disabled Dangerous Sports Club, from TwoFour, which follows a group of people with disabilities determined to push themselves to the limit.
Bungee jumping, sky diving and waterskiing might not be the faint hearted, but they are now accessible for the disabled – and more and more people are taking up these risky, adrenaline-fuelled sports.
The film follows Bazza, aka The Chair Devil, the ringleader of a group, who lost the use of all four limbs in a car accident; Jenna, a feisty girl from The Valleys who was born with small arms; Caroline, an amputee who lost not just her leg but her husband in a tragic motorcycle accident; and Kain, one of the smallest dwarfs in the UK who has a passion for extreme sports and fitness.
This one hour special aims to prove life doesn't need to be limited when you're disabled.
David Clews, Creative Director, Twofour, said: "Bazza and the group are a gutsy bunch. They've all endured difficulties, but they never let these challenges stop them. It's incredibly moving and life affirming watching them conquer their fears and pushing themselves to the limit, in this action packed week of adrenaline filled adventure."
Anna Miralis, Commissioning Editor, Documentaries, Channel 4, added: "The Disabled Dangerous Sports Club is not simply about those who have been brave in the face of huge challenges, but more a triumph of the human spirit. In this year of the Paralympics, I am delighted that we can show this film about a truly extraordinary group of people."
The Disabled Dangerous Sports Club was ordered by Anna Miralis. The executive producer is David Clews and the film is produced and directed by Holly Challinor. An air date is yet to be confirmed.
International distribution for the series, known outside of the UK as The Unbreakables, will be handled by Twofour Rights.
