'The Living And The Dead' Receives Air Date

New BBC drama, The Living And The Dead, is to air as a box set on BBC iPlayer from 17 June, it has been announced. This will be followed by transmission on BBC One from 28 June.

The supernatural drama was filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios and on location throughout Bristol, facilitated by Bristol Film Office. The six-part, Victorian-era series utilised 20,000 sq feet for set building the period interiors as well as production offices and prop stores. Costumes for the series were also made on site. Bristol Film Office assisted with location recces, supported location filming at Redcliffe Caves and arranged unit bases at Redcliffe Wharf and Ashton Court.

Set in 1894, a pioneering Victorian psychologist brings his vivacious young wife to live on his family's estate, but while there, he is confronted by one disturbing case after another. Are the strange events linked by coincidence, or is there something more sinister – or more supernatural – going on at Shepzoy?

'The Living And The Dead' has been created and written by Ashley Pharoah, directed by Alice Troughton and Sam Donovan and produced by Eliza Mellor. It stars Colin Morgan as Nathan and Charlotte Spencer as his wife Charlotte. A BBC Wales Drama production, in association with Monastic Productions and co-produced with BBC America, the series will be distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.

Eliza Mellor, Producer, said: "The Bottle Yard Studios was the perfect location for the series. Having been here for Poldark I knew the site would give us the space we needed for production offices, set builds and costume making, a strong pool of experienced crew in the area, and with the support of Bristol Film Office and Bath Film Office, great access to locations that were ideal for this drama set in rural Somerset."

Fiona Francombe, Site Director, The Bottle Yard Studios, added: "We were delighted to host 'The Living and the Dead' and to welcome back Eliza Mellor who was familiar with our facilities and the services offered by the wider TV & film community in the region. This exciting new drama has been hotly anticipated since its announcement last year and we are thrilled to add it to our high profile credits."

Natalie Moore, Bristol Film Office, commented: "With the city's reputation for TV & film production we were delighted to support 'The Living and the Dead' and to see yet another production tapping into the region's filming locations and TV & film services that are on offer. The extensive facilities available at The Bottle Yard Studios combined with their proximity to the film friendly locations and the robust services we provide, make Bristol an ideal choice for productions requiring studio space and wide ranging locations so it's no surprise to see the city's ever growing popularity as a filming destination."
