NAB 2016: The Cold Compress To The Broadcast Industry

News Image
Calming the excitement in the industry with regards to new standards, formats, buzzwords and string, NAB had it covered once again.

UHD, HDR, IP and micro services, but it goes without saying that the broadcast industry remains in a state of flux regarding direction.

IP production has a long way to go – oh, bring back 625 and 525 – "Can it be? It was all so simple then..." (fade up Barbra Streisand from The Way We Were).

However there is no doubt that there is a concerted effort to move towards getting the infrastructure all set for 4K and UHD. Thing is, it sells TVs, so the broadcast industry has to keep up!

To this end, Hamlet is pleased to be able to launch the new MSC-XD range of high definition routing solutions. Indeed we now have the ability to provide modular enclosures which can be added to as required as business requirements change.

The new MSC-XD range of routers offer flexible and user friendly control, including a built-in web page interface, the powerful, but easy-to-use MASCOT protocol, and 3rd party protocols. In addition to the built-in button panel interface, the Mini SDI routers offer easy project integration.

There are over 100 routing switcher configurations to choose from. The smallest router is a 2 x 2 "Mini" digital video router. With 1, 2 and 4U units and I/O increments of 8 up to the 64 x 64 in the 4U high, less than 15cm deep enclosure. This new Modular 64 x 64 unit offers customisation not available elsewhere.

With the launch of the new compact MSC-XD range there's exciting new capacity and functionality not found on other industry solutions – the new modular MSC-XD systems offer user customisation with a selection of serial digital, fibre optic and HDMI SFP inputs and outputs.

The units are SFP/MSA compatible therefore allowing 3rd party modules to be utilised, providing a flexible upgrade path.

An audio option provides audio routing capabilities in addition to embedded audio. This option is ordered as a separate device, either AES/SPDF digital or analogue stereo audio. MSC routing switchers come with a built-in Javascript based interactive webpage interface, addressed over Ethernet with a web browser, including smart phones and tablets.

For those involved in the world of IP, getting it right and testing it at the back of the bay has always been a real problem with what's previously been on offer.

But now Hamlet have the ultimate solution – the Hamlet Enterprise VX2, a tablet-like instrument to test the criteria of IT 101.290 specifications in priority levels 1 and 2, plus transport stream data.

The Enterprise is well established at broadcasters in the USA and Europe, and the Enterprise VX2 is now delivering.

The twice award-winning Enterprise is now the premier solution for those requiring a portable real-time analyser covering analysis of HEVC, H.264, MPEG-2 over IP, ASI, OTT and RF streamed services, with the RF spectrum analyser and HDSDI.
