RTÉ announce World Cup sponsorship deal

RTÉ have announced that MasterCard and Eircom are to be joint sponsors of the station’s coverage of the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea.
The deal will cover all of RTÉs television World Cup output for the duration of the tournament from May 31 to June 30.
The deal will involve a full range of sponsorship opportunities, including mentions into and out of commercial breaks as well as logos on all television promos for World Cup coverage. In addition, there will also be a sponsorship association with RTÉ Radio’s coverage.
MasterCard and Eircom will also have a presence on World Cup coverage on Aertel, the RTÉ Guide and RTÉ Online.
Geraldine O’Leary, RTÉ’s Director Sales and Marketing, said: “We’re very pleased to announce this deal for what will obviously be the sporting event of the year. MasterCard are continuing their long association with soccer and have previously been involved with RTÉ’s The Premiership, while Eircom are taking the opportunity to strengthen their links with the national team and their endeavours in world soccer. I look forward to a very constructive relationship with both our sponsors”.
As well as the World Cup agreement, both MasterCard and Eircom are official sponsors of RTÉ’s television coverage of the Republic of Ireland’s four pre-World Cup friendly matches, the first of which takes place against Russia on February 13 at Lansdowne Road.
