Bryant launch USB and FireWire patch panels

Non-linear editing facility Bryant Broadcast have launched 'back to back' patch panels for both USB (A to B), and FireWire/IEEE1394a protocols.
Either model is currently available with 16 ports to a 19”, 1U panel.
Plug and Play USB devices can transfer data at up to 12 megabits/second, almost 50 times faster than serial connections and are increasingly used in the Broadcast sector in audio and even digital speakers and microphones. The ‘hot plugging’ nature of USB lends itself to the rack mount patch panel.
However, within the digital audio/video domain FireWire is the interface of choice for interconnects of up to 4.5 metres.
FireWire is a high-speed serial input/output technology for connecting digital devices such as camcorders and cameras to desktop and portable computers and has been widely adopted by Sony, JVC, and Canon amongst others. The six-pin CAT 5e receptacles on both front and rear of the FireWire panel enable patching of digital editing kit, cameras and servers at 400 Mbps bandwidth, more than 30 times faster even than USB.
Each patch panel comes complete with a designation strip and tie bar to the rear and is available in Black or Dawn Mist finish.
