Ch4 To Countdown Britain's Top Children's Books

News Image
Channel 4 has commissioned a special 1x90' programme to look at Britain's Top 50 favourite children's books.

The one-off special will be presented by David Walliams. The list has been compiled by Sunday Times children's books editor, Nicolette Jones. The show will also see Walliams reveal some of his own favourite books, as well as interviews with numerous children's authors and illustrators including Michael Bond, Judith Kerr, Michael Morpurgo, Dame Jacqueline Wilson, and Sir Quentin Blake.

The programme will also feature extracts read by actors such as Julie Walters and Martin Freeman, while children will also be providing their own analysis and comments on some of the books to feature on the list. Sir Quentin Blake will also provide bespoke illustrations for the programme.

Channel 4's Head of Features, Gill Wilson, said: "British authors are magicians of surprise and delight. It is a joy to celebrate them with Mr Walliams and a host of the best creative imaginations in the world."

Jo Sargent, from production company King Bert, added: "We are delighted to be making 'Britain's Favourite Children's Books' for Channel 4, around a subject that stirs the imagination and will resonate with everybody. Who doesn't get a warm, nostalgic glow reminiscing about a favourite book from their childhood? It's a lovely world to delve into from the timeless classics, right up to the contemporary titles that are so popular today."

David Walliams commented: "Children's books are my passion, and I am thrilled we will be finding out the nation's favourite ones."

Britain's Favourite Children's Books (w/t) is due to air later this year on Channel 4.
