Second series of Ealtainn to air

The second series of the CCG funded arts programme Ealtainn, from Stornoway based production company Mactv, is to be broadcast on BBC2 Scotland.
This series promises to be as interesting and diverse as the first, with the tone of the programmes ranging from the serious to the light-hearted and encompassing a wide arc of topics.
A number of Scottish directors and editors have been involved in creating the series, so that the variety of styles gives an added edge to how the programmes are crafted.
This series invites its audience to note that the style and quality of production are as important as the very topics they cover. Topics as diverse as; Architecture and garden design, Traditional and Classical Scottish music, Hebridean funeral rituals, and a search for the roots of Gaelic comedians.
The series kicks off with Clàir. An incomplete history into the early Gaelic records produced commercially in Scotland. The era where 78's became absolute classics. Labels such as Beltona and Gaelfonn became household names, as well as artists such as Kitty MacLeod, The MacDonald sisters, Archie Grant and Calum Kennedy. The programme is a fleeting dip into the sound and singers that were heard on these records over many years.
The second series of Ealtainn begins on Thursday September 25 at 6.30pm.
