Rascular To Debut Helm At NAB
Rascular, supplier of PC-based multi-device master control, is to debut its Helm manual control solution at NAB 2015.
Rascular has already completed an installation of the technology to control Harmonic's Spectrum ChannelPort and Grass Valley Encore routing with SI and reseller Heartland Video Systems.
Helm is Rascular's flagship product and provides PC-based manual control of playout systems in a master control environment. This is achieved by consolidating complex functions across multiple, disparate devices into simple buttons on a touchscreen or PC user interface. The Helm interface can be as simple or as sophisticated as an operator requires, and provides easy control of the on-air playout chain.
Rascular will also be highlighting its partnership with Harmonic, such as the use of Helm in controlling the Harmonic Spectrum media server and Spectrum ChannelPort integrated channel playout systems.
Mike Schmidt, Senior Systems Engineer with Heartland, said: "We concentrate on call letter stations and public broadcasters. We have already completed a successful installation of Helm with Harmonic's Spectrum ChannelPort with the broadcaster using it to provide manual control. We see good opportunities for Rascular's technology in the US, indeed we believe manual control tools are going to become more, not less, important.
"If automation fails, or you need manual control for a live show, or simply for day-to-day intervention, then that's where Rascular comes in, allowing manual intervention via user-defined panels on a PC. It's a powerful system and Rascular provide an important level of control. We believe that in the markets in which we operate, manual control is only going to become more important."
Roddy Pratt, Technical Director with Rascular, added: "We are very excited about launching Helm in the US and we are very encouraged by Heartland's initial success. Our technology gives operators manual access at the touch of a button to precisely the functionality they need, when they need it."
