Scottish psychological thriller awarded lottery cash
'Freak', written by Colin McLaren, to be directed by Morag Mackinnon and jointly produced by Carolynne Sinclair Kydd ( Peel Street Productions) and David Muir (Umbrella Productions) has been awarded £250,000 by the Scottish Screen Lottery Panel at their August meeting.
Described as a psychological thriller, it tells the story of Anwyn, whose younger sister has disappeared. Anwyn discovers that her sister has been working the streets and comes to believe that a taxi driver has abducted and killed her. Anwyn decides to take on the role of prostitute herself in the dangerous game of trapping her sister's killer.
David Muir's Umbrella Productions co-produced the Danish/Scottish comedy Skagerrak which took three awards at the recent Moscow Film Festival.
Carolynne Sinclair Kydd just completed work as line producer on the New Found Film Blinded and May Miles Thomas's Solid Air, following on the success of the two films Peel Street produced last year, Billy Bongo and The Practicality of Magnolia.
Colin McLaren and Morag Mackinnon won BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards for their short film Home.
