Audio Technica Adds To 50 Series Mic Range

News Image
Audio-Technica is to unveil the latest addition to its 50 Series studio microphone range at the AES Convention in Los Angeles, starting today.

The AT5045 is a hand-built, large-diaphragm, stick-design side-address condenser instrument microphone with a cardioid polar pattern.
The AT5045's large diaphragm design allows for fast transient response, low noise, high SPL handling (149 dB SPL) and dynamic range (141 dB). It is suited for use on overheads, percussion, acoustic guitar, strings and other acoustic instruments requiring the capture of dynamic, detailed sound.
The AT5045 employs a large rectangular element, crafted by Audio-Technica engineers to improve transient response and increase response bandwidth. Discrete components were carefully selected for the AT5045 to maximise performance and its two-micron-thick, vapour-deposited gold diaphragm has been aged to achieve optimum sonic characteristics that will remain constant over years of use.
Another AT5045 design feature is its internal shock mounting, which decouples the capsule from the microphone body. The AT5045 comes with an innovative isolation clamp, engineered not only to isolate the microphone but also to provide positioning while offering damping of mechanical noise and resonances that could be transmitted to the microphone.
The cardioid polar pattern of the microphone is more sensitive to sound originating directly in front of the element, making it effective in reducing pickup of unwanted sounds and providing isolation of the instrument.

AT5045 Specifications:
• Element: Fixed-charge back plate, permanently polarised condenser
• Polar pattern: Cardioid
• Frequency response: 20 – 20,000 Hz
• Open circuit sensitivity: –35 dB (17.7 mV) re 1V at 1 Pa
• Impedance: 100 ohms
• Maximum input sound level: 149 dB SPL, 1 kHz at 1% T.H.D.
• Noise: 8 dB SPL
• Dynamic range (typical): 141 dB, 1 kHz at Max SPL
• Signal-to-noise ratio: 86 dB, 1 kHz at 1 Pa
• Requires 48V phantom power for operation

The AT5045 (single microphone) and AT5045P (stereo pair) carry recommended retail prices as follows:

• AT5045 (single): £1,299 inc VAT / €1,299 ex VAT
• AT5045P (pair): £2,499 inc VAT / €2,499 ex VAT
• AT8482 shockmount: £249 inc VAT / €249 ex VAT
