VMI Celebrates MD's 25th Anniversary

UK-based HD broadcast suppliers VMI have celebrated 25 years of MD Barry Basset being part of the firm.

Mr Basset left Keele University in 1987 before completing an MBA in Business at Imperial College, specialising in Finance in 1996, after a three-year part time course, before becoming Managing Director in 1996.
VMI developed Post Production and in the late '90s ran a fleet of 20 x On-line AVIDs for hire, ran a post production company in Shepherds Bush (now West Digital) and supplied the crew to Granada's 60 Minutes with Trevor McDonald.
VMI developed a multi-camera music production business in the early 2000s, becoming a UK agent for Alfacam, supplying up to 20 camera OBs for large music events. The company was an early adopter of HD cameras also in the early 2000s and ran a fleet of 10 x Sony HDW-750 HDCAM camcorders.
The company opened a 19 seat High Definition Screening Room in a new D'arblay Street facility, running courses on cinematography.
A £0.5m uninsured loss in 2006 proved a setback to the firm but Mr Basset, aided by Kevin Oaten, a new Director of the firm, made a fresh start and became the first supplier of the new Alexa camera in 2010.
The company moved into its existing flagship HQ in 2011, where it remains today, renting production equipment to documentaries and Dramas, such as Midsomer Murders, Our Girl, Cilla, Secret Lives of Students, Teens and Bad Education.
