De Lane Lea & GearBox look to HD preview projection

Professional audio/video equipment hire and sales company GearBox has entered into a joint business venture with film post production facility De Lane Lea to bring High Definition video preview to Soho.
Available in either the purpose built 37-seat De Lane Lea Screening Room or in the world-renowned dubbing theatre - Studio One, which can accommodate 60-seats, the HD preview service is believed to be unique in London.
High Definition technology is becoming key to an increasing number of productions, as leading directors announce that they will no longer be using film and broadcasters look to HD as a way of increasing the commercial potential of big-budget series.
“We know that there is immense demand for High Definition projection because we own one of the few projectors of this type in the UK,” said GearBox Managing Director Richard Eastwood. “De Lane Lea offers superb facilities in a great location, so their rooms seemed the ideal place to host this technology.”
De Lane Lea Managing Director Peter Joly seemed equally convinced that there is already a substantial demand for HD preview. “The focus on Hi-Def in the last few years has been on the Production side,” he said, “but now that the film industry has accepted the electronic future of this part of the industry, attention has turned to the dubbing and preview environments. We at De Lane Lea see High Definition as very much the future and are delighted to be able to offer this unique service to the Soho post community.”
The projector that GearBox and De Lane Lea are offering is the Digital Projection HIGHlite 6000DSX, a unit that has already established itself as the High Definition projector of choice among motion picture professionals.
The 6000DSX is capable of reproducing a palette of more than a billion colours and has a power of 5,000 ANSI lumens. Because of its exemplary quality, the projector is also highly recommended when there is a requirement to show SD in the most favourable circumstances.
GearBox teams the projector with a Panasonic HD-D5 — the AJ-HD3700 — one of a comprehensive range of industry standard VTRs stocked by the company.
De Lane Lea is now accepting HD Preview bookings on tel. 020 7432 3800.
