SGL announce reseller agreement with Avid

Software Generation Ltd. (SGL) have announced a reseller agreement with Avid Technology, whereby Avid will offer the SGL FlashNet archive management software as part of its product line.
FlashNet manages archival storage devices including datatape and DVD robotic libraries. The integration of FlashNet and Avid archiving and storage solutions will enable editors to send media files to archive directly from the editing application user interface.
The integrated system can be used for both migration of media to long-term storage or for backup of online media.
The need for data backup and managed long-term storage has become increasingly pronounced as more and more media exists only in the digital realm. Source material may exist only as a file and therefore be unrecoverable from traditional videotape.
The need for storage also continues to grow as production in high-resolution, high bit rate formats becomes the norm rather than the exception. By including FlashNet as part of shared storage systems, Avid will be able to offer extended storage and archival services for Avid Unity media networks, in conjunction with Media Composer, Symphony, NewsCutter, and Avid Xpress editing systems.
