Captain Scarlet animated series in production

Gerry Anderson has announced that production of a new 26-part series of 'Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons' is now underway.
A cutting-edge facility has been set up in Pinewood’s Kubrick building which will produce the new Captain Scarlet using the latest CGI animation. More than a hundred staff will be responsible for bringing the new Captain Scarlet to life – with some seventy of them on Maya seats, backed up with a 150CPU Linux renderfarm. To future-proof the new series, which should air in 2005, the new Captain Scarlet is being produced in High Definition.
The new shows will keep the successful format established in the classic 1960s series and the key characters will remain. Everything else, including a host of incredible futuristic vehicles and craft, is being created from scratch in what is a multi-million pound enterprise.
The task of 're-animating' Captain Scarlet has been entrusted to some of the most talented specialists in the industry. “I am thrilled to have secured the Academy Award-winning skills of character animation specialists Passion Pictures and leading visual effects house Double Negative, both of whom have joined forces as 'Scarlet Digital Imaging' especially for this project,” said Anderson.
“The early work is simply stunning. The design concepts, characterisation and scripts are now rapidly starting to come together and I am very excited both by what has been accomplished so far and what is yet to come. I truly believe that this will be the best Gerry Anderson production yet,” he said.
