Megahertz complete BBC Scotland order

Cambridge based Megahertz Broadcast Systems have completed a contract for a digital radio production and recording vehicle for BBC Scotland.
The vehicle, based on a DAF 19-ton rigid chassis, is equipped with a Soundtracs D4 digital mixing console, complete with two stageboxes with a fibre link back to the vehicle. It will replace BBC Scotland’s old ‘Type A’ vehicle.
Other facilities include two 24-track Mackie hard disk recorders, a 4-channel Sadie, two DAT machines, two CD recorders along with a host of outboard processing equipment and a Trilogy Talkback System. Outside links can be achieved via two ISDN Codecs.
The body construction and acoustics was carried out by W.H. Bence coachworks based in Bristol. While primarily intended for radio, the vehicle also features additional video monitors and communications for TV programmes.
The vehicle has been designed to provide a stable and comfortable working environment for production crew and is capable of recording and transmitting live music and events programmes from venues around the UK. It is also able to operate at 96kHz sampling rate for extremely high quality work.

The vehicle’s first assignment will be a high profile recording of Wagner’s ‘Complete Ring Cycle’ to be performed by the Scottish Opera during the Edinburgh International Festival.
