RTS Announces London Conference Lineup

The Royal Television Society (RTS) has announced its line-up of speakers for its 2014 London Conference. The bi-annual event, which takes place on 9 September 2014 at King's Place, will take the theme of 'Power, Politics and the Media'.

The conference will be sponsored by STV and chaired by its CEO Rob Woodward. "In the week leading up to Scotland's referendum on independence and less than a year to the next UK general election, this year's conference will provide a timely insight into the forces that forge our industry worldwide," he said.
"Does the media world rest in a state of natural equilibrium between the political and the powerful or is it the coveted prize in a tug of war? How do policies help or hinder growth and innovation and should we celebrate or fear increasingly unregulated media channels?
"We have lined up a cornucopia of expertise spanning the many axes of politics and power covering the UK, Europe and global markets to provide their insights into the topic."
This year's speakers include Chase Carey, President & Chief Operating Officer, 21st Century Fox; Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport; JB Perrette, President of Discovery Networks International; Tony Hall, Director General of the BBC; Jeremy Darroch, CEO of BSkyB; Kevin Lygo, MD of ITV Studios; Jim Ryan, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, Liberty Global; Lorraine Heggessey, Executive Chair, Boom Pictures; John Hardie, CEO of ITN; John Ryley, Head of Sky News; James Harding, BBC Director of News and Current Affairs; James Purnell, Director of Strategy & Digital, BBC; Stewart Purvis CBE, Professor of TV Journalism, City University; Michael Foster; Broadcaster, Kirsty Wark; Writer, Broadcaster & Media Consultant, Steve Hewlett; and Sir Peter Bazalgette, President of RTS.
Sessions will explore themes including how the BBC is shaping up for charter renewal in 2016 and what the future PSB landscape will look like; the changing role of talent in IP creation; the future provision of broadcast news, the role of online competitors and how PBS news will be funded; what the industry is doing to enable the next generation of talent and increase access to the sector; the changing role that broadcast, online and social media play in the democratic process around the world; and strategies for success through the eyes of global players on both sides of the Atlantic.
Delegates booking a full price ticket will be given the opportunity to request a free place for a Next Generation Leader in their organisation to attend the conference. An early bird rate is available for bookings received by 1 August 2014.
