New extender from Gefen launched

USB-based computer peripherals, such as digital cameras, camcorders, scanners, printers, keyboards and mice are limited to a working distance of about 17-feet from the computer.
Beyond that, the USB signal is not guaranteed to work properly, if at all. Gefen's new ex-tend-it USB-500, however, is engineered to enable USB devices to be operated up to 1650-feet from the computer, making remote computer usage a definite reality.
The USB-500 uses Extreme USB technology, has a four-port USB Hub built-in and employs fibre optic cables to connect the sender and receiver units. The sender is connected to the computer; the receiver is connected to the USB peripheral. Both units are connected with fibre optics in lengths up to 1,650 feet.
Each unit measures approximately five by five inches, weighs less than two pounds and comes with a 15-volt power supply.
Widely used in manufacturing, aerospace and healthcare industries, the ex-tend-it USB-500 has proven itself an effective solution for operating computers in unsafe or unusual environments which would endanger the central processing unit. It is also an ideal solution for any type of remote multimedia presentation capability that can be controlled with computer equipment.
