Solid State Logic provide vital equipment to 'The Hospital'

The Hospital, a new London-based facility for music, art and film professionals, are incorporating two Solid State Logic digital consoles into the first phase of their unique studio plans.
Founded by American investor Paul G. Allen and under the creative direction of musician and filmmaker Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics, The Hospital is based in the former St. Paul’s Hospital in Covent Garden, close to many of the UK’s top postproduction and independent film and TV production companies. The 60,000 square foot facility will feature a full range of facilities designed to allow all kinds of creative projects to be completed, including Europe’s first high-definition television studio.
The first phase of the project, which is scheduled to be open for business in July 2003, includes a lower ground floor HD television studio linked to a state of the art audio control room. This will enable the studio to be used simultaneously for music recording and television programme production.
An SSL Aysis Air console will be central to operations in the TV sound control room, while the music control room will feature a 48 fader, 96 channel SSL MT Plus console.
Chip Treverton, Director/CEO of The Hospital project team in London, said: “The Hospital had several criteria to meet the demands of music based video capture space – fast automated reset, the ability to make changes to complex set-ups to support multiple live acts or scene changes quickly, integration and resource sharing between the 2 control rooms, reliability and service/support, and a large number of inputs on a smaller and familiar work surface. We looked at all the major players and decided that the MT+ was the only desk that met all of our requirements, and we’re pleased to be working with SSL to deliver these for future clients.”
Future developments at The Hospital will include a mixed-use exhibit gallery scheduled to open in early autumn, a private members club, and a restaurant. There are also plans to develop more music recording and mixing studios, although details of equipment and a time-frame for opening have yet to be announced.
