Canon's J17aX7.7B lens widens ENG performance

Building on their reputation as the leading Broadcast and Pro-Video lens for most applications, Canon have introduced the new J17ax7.7B – the company's widest-angle standard ENG zoom lens yet.
The J17ax is the latest in a series of Canon Internal Focus (IFxs) ENG lenses and delivers superior optical quality, enhanced specifications and advanced Digital Drive features – now with Zoom Track, which allows the camera operator to set the electronic focal length end stops to their desired position for both the tele and the wide side of the lens. The new solution is also available in a more compact, affordable package.
With a 7.7mm wide angle combined with an equally impressive 17x zoom ratio, the Canon J17ax raises the level of standard ENG lens performance. In all, the J17ax has a 1x greater magnification, about a four per cent wider angle - over a two per cent longer focal length and in a more compact size than its predecessor - than the J16ax.
Other main features of Canon's Digital Drive include Speed Preset, Shuttle Shot, Framing Preset, Zoom Mode Select and improved maximum zoom and focus servo speed. The benefits of Digital Drive include advanced ergonomics and faster digital controls that add to the overall value of the J17ax.
Since the introduction of Canon's first IF lens, the J14ax8.5B IRS, through to the premiere of the IFxs lens design technology on the J21ax7.8B, Canon has been at the forefront of ENG lens optics and performance.
Using the exclusive X-element and Power Optical System, Canon IFxs lenses achieve higher specs and quality in a compact size. Extensive 3D-CAD modelling on the J17ax has resulted in the most advanced mechanical structure and weight balance to arrive on the market.
