IABM Announces Sponsorship Of Joint Task Force
The International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers (IABM) has added its weight to the newly launched global Joint Task Force on File Formats and Interoperability.
IABM joins forces with other high profile sponsors from the media and broadcast sectors, such as the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA), Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), Association of National Advertisers (ANA), and American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A's).
The task force brings together stakeholders from across the professional media market including broadcasters, advertisers and manufacturers, as well as standards bodies and trade associations. The task force will undertake a study into how core industry players are using current standards and to what extent these meet their business needs. It will then build on this research to make recommendations on provisioning new automated processes across the media and entertainment supply chain.
John Ive, director of business development & technology at the IABM, said: "The media sector is rapidly moving towards file-based workflows, however, a lack of common standards is preventing the industry from fully capitalising on this development.
"We believe the research conducted by the task force offers a real opportunity for the industry to develop new standards to increase interoperability and to enhance the measurability of metadata. The recommendations stemming from the study could ultimately lead to cost savings for media companies, therefore we would strongly encourage our members to take part in the survey on user requirements."
