BBC is ‘middle-class’ claims Director-General

Director-General of the BBC, Greg Dyke, has called the corporation a “south of England, middle-class institution”.
He made his views known when Sanjeev Bhaskar, star of the Kumars at Number 42, interviewed him during a publicity event in London this week, saying that the BBC needed to do more to reach out to more minority groups.
“There’s a great number of people out there who say we don’t reflect their lives in any way at all," Mr Dyke said. “The future of the BBC depends on us being able to reach out to a much wider group of people. If we have to do worthy things to get us there then so be it."
Speaking at the launch a BBC local radio initiative, which tracks down unheard stories from all over Britain, Mr Dyke insisted that his criticism of the BBC was "fair”.
Last year, Mr Dyke pointed out his belief that the BBC needed to rid itself of its middle-class image and needed to accept that minority groups and young people believed the Corporation was “out of touch”.
